T Block started as a simple refurbishment project of an existing 4-storey teaching building. During our initial planning inspections we became concerned about the structural performance of the building.
Because of that concern the project was stopped and investigations were undertaken to check the building’s structural adequacy. It was found that the main structural components were severely distressed and the building was not fit for its proposed refurbishment. Demolition was considered by the university board.
Tabletop responded with an innovative method of overcoming the structural inadequacies and the building was saved. USQ believe that the savings which tabletop achieved by avoiding the necessity to demolish the building was in excess of $500 000.
